Matrimonial Proceedings

Mr. Colin Kang successfully represented the respondent in an appeal before the High Court which matter was reported in Lianhe Zaobao on 24 December 2004. It was an appeal by the petitioner (wife) against an order by the district court judge dismissing her application to rescind part of a consent order in the decree nisi granted on 27 July 2004, and to substitute a fresh order in its place. The part of the decree nisi that the petitioner sought to rescind was clause 3(b), which reads as follows:
“That upon full payment of $50,000.00 by the respondent to the petitioner, the petitioner shall transfer her share to all title, rights and interest of the matrimonial flat known as and situate at XXX entirely to the respondent. That the respondent do bear all costs and expense in the said transfer. ”
The petitioner’s grounds for this application were that she consented to the orders without realizing that she was a joint owner of the matrimonial flat. Her counsel on appeal submitted that had she known, she would not have consented to the sum of $50,000. She should have been, and ought to be given, at least half the value of the flat, valued at $520,000 as at 13 August 2004. The matrimonial flat was a gift by the respondent’s grandmother to him as well as the petitioner. The petitioner was aware that she had a share in that flat and told her previous solicitor so. But she did not know the nature of her interest and so did not mention this aspect.
The appeal was dismissed. The Court was satisfied that the respondent had, in good faith, negotiated a settlement at arm’s length, and was proceeding to make a fresh start in life. And that if there was an error, it sprang from the petitioner herself and the Court ought not to disturb.
Libel Proceedings
(Reported in The Straits Times, 03/03/2005)
Mr. Colin Kang successfully negotiated the settlement of a libel suit on behalf of the client, which matter was reported in The Straits Times on 3 March 2005.
The client, a doctor, sued a patient’s sister for libel over claims she made in a letter to Lianhe Zaobao about his medical conduct. The defendant’s letter, saying the doctor had acted unprofessionally, was published on 11/04/2001 in the paper’s letters page with the headline: “A horrendous encounter with a doctor during consultation”.
The Singapore Medical Council investigated the complaint and found it to be unfounded.

4. Sustainable development. A strategic approach can provide the frame work for a positive commitment by all decision makers to the principles of sustainability.
5. Partnership action. A strategy needs to be action focused. The essentially fragmented nature of tourism means that it will be essential for people, businesses and organizations to work together in an effective way to get things done and to make things happen. Securing future success and prosperity depends on effective working relationships being established between willing partners.

Wales hosting of the Rugby World Cup (RWC) in 1999 was timely because it provided a unique opportunity for public and private sector organizations in Wales to work in partnership to redefine and strengthen its “branding” in overseas markets.
The RWC 1999 was seen as a platform for an image-building exercise that would not only increase awareness of Wales throughout the world, but also enable the tourism industry to communicate a strong, modern and attractive image of Wales to potential visitors. Wales was the focus of considerable media attention prior to and during the tournament. A strategic approach was devised by a partnership of organizations to optimize the short-term and long-term benefits of the RWC 1999. The team Wales initiative involved the development of an integrated programme of activities, including marketing and promotion, accommodation upgrading , infrastructural improvements, visitor management and costumer care initiatives.

Lalu dia orangnya suka pilih-plih teman , jadi teman-teman banyak yang tidak suka kepada dia. Dia selalu menganggap dirinya paling sempurna dan paling hebat. Saya menjadi tidak senang mempunyai teman seperti dia, karena sifat dia selalu menjengkelkan orang lain. Sebenarnya saya ingin berteman dengan dia tetapi saya tidak suka dengan sifatnya itu.
